The Banshee

Composed by Ernie Carpenter whose boyhood home at Elk River, West Virginia was drowned following the construction of the Sutton Dam.

A reel from the Shetland fiddler Peter Fraser (1884-1966). The slow start and frantic finish suggest the ship’s launch down the slipway.

No historical connection with Napoleonic times.  The titles imply reels or marches. American, Scottish or Irish origin.

The Turkey tune is from the 1830s. Brighton Camp is probably 18th century with strong English and Irish claims as does I’ll Tell Me Ma.

A ragtime cakewalk from c. 1900 derived from the US fiddler Sandford Rich and an Irish reel by Fermanagh fiddler/flautist John McMahon.

The tracks below are a selection from the Oddfellas 2009 CD ‘Odds & Ends’.

The CD has 16 tracks and can be purchased for £10 plus postage and packing, by emailing:  Oddfellas@live.co.uk
